|Anonymous sent: What's the criteria for numbering the Marvel universes? I know every universe is numbered, I know a few (616, 6160 etc), but I see numbers thrown around even for fanon universes (because by the rules of the multiverse every AU anyone ever writes or draws is some form of canon) and they seem to follow some sort of pattern that I don't get. Is there a rhyme and reason, or is it just keysmashing a calculator?|
Reed Richard numbered our universes, so if you’re looking for logic, remember that he numbered his own universe the six hundred and sixth. Any other rational person would have numbered HIS OWN UNIVERSE #1 unless he had a compelling reason to do otherwise, but not Reed Richards, that stretchy motherfucker.
Also important to remember that Marvel Comics is a company which has made an art out of narratively doing irrational things and rationalizing them later.
Anyway, far as I’m aware there’s no logic. There is a theory that the further from 616 in numbering the more different the universe is from the original Marvel canon, but I don’t believe that’s explicitly stated.
The ones I know of are:
616 — Original Marvel canon
1218 — Our reality
1610 — Ultimate Comics universe
3490 — Tony Stark was born female, married Steve Rogers
199999 — Marvel Cinematic Universe
Those aren’t the only ones mentioned, I’m sure, but I’m not certain of the numbering for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Armored Adventures, Superhero Squad, etc. Most of those also aren’t referred to by number; 1610 is just called the Ults verse, 199999 is the MCU, etc.
I wasn’t aware of any fan-created universes being numbered, but if they are it’s probably just the fan pulling a number they like.
But, if I am wrong, guys, feel free to comment and correct me. Anon, watch this post’s comments for more details!

Quick review of my Attack on Titan boots since quite a few people are considering ordering them. These are from Befdimall on eBay, item BE06. (No link because the link changes when they restock)
First off, these are AWFUL BOOTS but they’re great for SnK cosplay. Do not wear them out of cosplay. Don’t.
I paid ~$24 for them and shipping took 11 days from China. The Brown color is actually perfect, my phone camera just can’t do color. They only come in whole sizes, but I wear a 7.5 and the 7 fit just fine in the foot. It’s tight on my larger calves, but that’s what I was hoping for. If you have thin calves, these boots WILL SLOUCH. The shaft is perfect height for me, but I’m 159 cm (5’2.5) so it might not work with taller people.
I seam ripped the straps off very easily, but be aware that the holes will remain. The buckle around the heel will need to be cut off carefully since it’s sewn into the seam instead of on top of it.
The material is soft and pretty cheap pleather, lined with plaid fleece. I would HIGHLY SUGGEST removing the fleece because it’s awful and the boot is quite difficult to put on properly with it there. As you can see in the pictures, the craftsmanship is pretty shady, but I don’t mind too much. Though I admit, putting it on I was terrified I’d rip the pleather (and I DID rip the lining). It’s very soft and thin. If you walk around in these for an hour, there’s going to be a toe crease.
The heel is a tiny bit too tall for my taste (2 inches) and will need to be painted, but it doesn’t look bad.
The back opening needs to be opened up a little and cording added. Easy fix.
Overall these are awful, flimsy boots, but for SnK cosplay purposes I think they’ll work nicely.
